History

Established in 1967, the Bienville Club offers a panoramic view of Mobile Bay, Mobile River and the surrounding area from atop the 34th floor of the GM Building (formerly known as the AmSouth Building), Bienville. Meaning "good city" is a name befitting a Club with a Member roster that mirrors the diversity of Mobile's business and social community.

The clubroom's original architectural design was by the Mobile firm of Johnstone and Faddis and interior appointments under the direction of Wade Lott. Antiques acquired from around the world are reminiscent of the many influences found in Mobile. In the Bienville Room is a portrait of Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieurre de Bienville, Mobile city founder. The Caesar bust and marble head plaques are from Italy. The Club's logo was inspired by iron wreaths that adorned the old Custom House which stood where the GM Building now stands. Our Membership reflects the Southern Hospitality of Old Mobile whose roots stem from a city celebrating 300 years of history.

The Bienville Club serves as a gateway from the past and as a lighthouse to the future. Membership by invitation is a rich tradition passed down from generation to generation. We invite you to experience the legacy of old Mobile, relax in surroundings that provide the ultimate in southern comfort, dine on exquisite cuisine and share in tradition with our family of Members.
